The Office of the President in Obongi District has launched a probe into the repeated breakdown of the new emergency marine ambulance.
A team led by RDC Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, DRDC Paul Abaho and ARDC Umuhoza Habiba Furaha rushed to Obongi landing site Thursday after complaints that the ambulance was putting pregnant mothers at risk.
Parked after repairs
The officials found the water ambulance parked at the landing site despite being recently repaired.
Ministry of Works and Transport staff managing the Obongi ferry said the ambulance had been abandoned without security, leading to vandalism.
RDCs not informed
RDC Hashaka said his office was not informed about the breakdowns.
“We shall take up the matter to ensure the emergency marine ambulance is repaired. This boat is meant to save lives,” Hashaka said.
The ambulance was delivered to Obongi to handle medical emergencies across the River Nile.
